Lubricated laminar rings guarantee a better seal than those that are not lubricated. A greased laminar seal is recommended in particular if protection against splashing or dirt is required. To make sure that sufficient grease is transferred to the equipment, it is recommended that lubrication supply and removal channels are provided. If possible, the ring carrier should be provided with 4 lubricating channels of between 3 and 5 mm, distributed over the circumference and in the groove. This will make it easy to replace the grease when lubricating.
Below you will find three different and proven examples of lubrication with supply and removal channels. The channels can be provided according to where there is room. Leakage from outside is not possible, because the channels are filled with grease.
We cannot make any recommendations concerning the choice of lubricant or lubrication interval. The type and quantity of the lubricant used has to be determined and specified by the customer according to the operating conditions, such as speed, operating temperatures, degree of contamination and environmental conditions. Bearing and lubricant manufacturers may be able to provide information in this respect.
The "FK5-HFL" rings are the exception with regard to lubrication. They must be installed dry and without additional lubrication. The surrounding components, which come into contact with the laminar rings, must not be greased either. Lubricants carbonise because of the high operating temperatures and laminar rings cannot then function.
Lubricating chambers provided vertically in the groove: four for each groove at 90°, distributed over the circumference. The diameter of the lubrication chamber depends on the width of the groove. The grease can flow away against the laminar rings or under the laminar rings.
Lubrication channel, which is horizontal relative to the grooves: four for each groove at 90° distributed over the circumference. The channel diameter must be between 3 and 5 mm. The grease can flow away next to and under the laminar rings.
This lubrication method is a combination of the above options 1 and 2. In this case, a lubrication chamber is located between the two seals. This chamber serves as a grease reservoir and will improve the sealing effect.
