Fey laminar rings are single- or double-wound steel sealing rings. They combine a low-contact multi-labyrinth effect with small butt openings. They are particularly effective as grease seals and also for protection against fluids, dirt and dust. In addition to their excellent sealing properties for rotating parts, the rings, with their low friction and small contact surface, guarantee a significant reduction in temperature and friction. This makes these seals highly suitable for use with high speeds and applications where high demands are made with regard to temperature and/or friction.
Fey laminar rings are made from chromium nickel materials for static applications, such as axial compensators on exhaust systems of internal combustion engines, exhaust recirculation systems and engines with operating temperatures up to +700°C. These materials offer spring stability and heat resistance even at high temperatures.
The laminar rings are available as single-wound laminar rings (AS and IS) with butt opening and double-wound laminar rings (ASD and ISD) without butt opening The use of the different types depends on the effect. The operating conditions, movement of the parts to be sealed and leakage requirements have to be considered. In addition to using one or several externally tensioned or internally tensioned rings, it is also possible to use a combination of the two in a groove.

It is always necessary to test under operating conditions before going over to standard production. This is needed to determine whether the required sealing results are obtained for the laminar rings and the required locking effects for the locking rings.
